One of the most common car repair tips that I often see is advising you to just cut some coils off of your factory stock springs to get the same dramatic effect. Unfortunately, today's springs actually employ a much more aggressive spring rate which means that you can actually negatively affect both safety and performance if you cut one off. However, before you go out and cut the coils, read this first.
The truth is that cutting off coils on your OEM parts can result in a rather expensive at-home job. While professional car wash companies may be able to do a quality downwash at a reasonable price, there are also a number of homemade up-sides to the do it yourself approach. For starters, many car repair tips instruct you to simply "wet your clutch". While this may work, it won't add enough horsepower to get your vehicle to the speed you want it to reach. On the other hand, if you're dealing with a real fix or problem, then perhaps it is worth considering the following. When I was looking for car repair tips to save money on repairs, one of my favorite options was to buy premium fuel at a local auto parts store. I did this not only because I had some extra money, but also because I didn't want to deal with any added expense to my regular repairs. The problem with buying premium fuel at your local auto parts store is that not all dealerships accept them. I found a couple places in my area that did but not near enough to make a difference. After driving for an hour or so, I never saw any indication of the car needing another charge of fuel. Another trick I tried when looking for car repairs and cheap auto maintenance was to fill up my car's gas tank using my own gas. This method worked for a while but required me to buy some fuel at my local gas station. I suppose if I had filled up the tank to the highest possible level, the car would have needed a refill. If you are a person who likes to keep your gas gauge at a nice high number, this may be something you'd consider. If you can't afford to do this, you can always refill your car's gas tank at home using your favorite at-home car maintenance kit. I've even heard of some folks hooking their car's tank to a small lawn sprinkler head! A third option for car repair tips I tried were the coolant, oil change (check out Synthetic ATV Oil), and water pump overhauls. You might think these three simple items would go hand-in-hand, since all three are essential for proper operation of a vehicle. Unfortunately, they don't. Unless you have a really good oil change on hand, the coolant, and/or coolant and water pump can't fix anything if the timing belt, fan, or engine is shot. If you are going to try some DIY car repairs, another common problem that often shows up during routine maintenance is the starter. In order to work on the starter, you need to remove the battery first. Then you can disconnect the starter from the electrical system. Some diy car repair tips say to check out the wires and cables to see if the starter has quit, but I've never seen this done successfully. It seems to me that the starter must fail because it won't start at all! Another common problem when you're looking for some easy diy power steering repairs is if your car suddenly starts moving when you press the brake pedal. I don't know why this occurs, but if you want to try some of these car repair tips, you can take care of this problem by disconnecting the battery first, and then disconnecting the alternator as well. Once you've done that, you just disconnect the power steering pump and take care of the problem. If you're trying to do some simple DIY car maintenance, like checking your fuel line, replacing spark plugs, changing a tire, or adjusting the oil, you might be able to do it yourself. However, there are times when it's better to leave the car maintenance to a professional. For example, in my case, I had to replace both the spark plugs and the gas cap because they were shot. The mechanic who did the job said that he would be willing to let me handle this project since he was doing some additional work on his car.

Thank you for noting that if the timing belt, fan, or engine are damaged, the coolant and/or water pump won't be able to replace anything unless you have a really excellent oil change on hand. My mother claims that the pump overhaul machine is damaged. She won't be able to fix it herself; therefore, I'll advise her to have a pump overhaul professional do it.
